Overview

SHINE empowers women, gender diverse people and children in the Scenic Rim, Beaudesert, Jimboomba, Yarrabilba and Flagstone to live their lives free from violence.

At every turn, you are listened to, respected, and supported in your next steps towards safety. SHINE works with you on your own terms, at your own pace, promoting self-determination and dignity without judgement.

We walk alongside people experiencing violence and abuse as they navigate their pathway to safety. We can explore ways to increase your immediate safety, provide information, and support access to specialist services and provide practical support as required.

On Wednesdays, a SHINE Domestic and Family Violence Specialist is available at Beaudesert Magistrates Court if you need a safe space to wait while at court. We can connect you with legal support, support you to navigate court processes, help you understand domestic violence orders and link you with the right services.

Through a trauma-informed and person-centered approach, we will connect in a flexible, responsive and collaborative way that is respectful, culturally appropriate, non-judgmental and supports self-determination.

What to expect

Although you can self-refer to SHINE, many people are referred by police or other services who have concerns for your safety.

Once we receive a referral for you, a SHINE Intake and Assessment worker will discreetly contact you to understand your situation, explore your needs, and hear about any safety concerns you have.

SHINE stands for Safety, Healing, Independence, New beginnings and Empowerment.
